What a shame, government at its best. I don't think that the government is stupid enought to think bigger is better its just that bigger means more money to be mis-appropriated. More cash for the fat cats, more project to be torn down in the future and rebuilt over and over again.

What a government albatross! This proposed concept for a bike path is so far removed from ideas discussed over the past several years. A paved road? Bridges? Gabones for a reasonably unchanged stretch of coatline over the past 30 yrs (Steps through Lighthouse)?

Ridiculous. How can they justify the use of gabbions and sea walls in the shadows of the failed Balneario? Not to mention the fact that the natural coastline, turtle nesting sights, beach access and the path itself in 5 years, will all become things of the past.

When we were discussing having a bike trail in Pacifica, CA, they wanted to build this monstrosity that would have blocked the view of the waves from the main surfing parking lot in town. In addition, they wanted to build a sloping sea wall, cover it with sand and call it a "restored beach" in order to "protect" the newly built bike trail. The Pedro Point Surf Club in Pacifica, the local chapter of Surfrider (San Mateo County) and others who were concerned about these plans joined forces to have the City of Pacifica modify their plans. We were successful. What I've known for a long time is that it is always a mistake to "harden" the coastline with a sea wall, rip rap or a jetty. The officials in PR need to hear from as many people as possible that hardening the coast just leads to erosion and environmental degradation. Advise them to not build anything near the beautiful shoreline there that needs new protection from a seawall. It would be much smarter for them to build it far enough away from the shore to make such protection unnecessary.

Rincon|Online contacted the Mayor of Rincon to get his take on this issue. To see his reponse and more about the Bike Path, go to www.RinconPR.com/blog.htm .

Total boondoggle! Rincon' must act to prevent this obscenity and save our piece of paradise. How this plan could happen without any public input is incomprehensible. As a biker and eco-builder, I hope that Rincon' can take charge of its future with a feel for the environment, sustainability, and appropriate technology. Thanks

We need to ask where the science is that backs this project. The Tres Palmas Management Plan Committee surely has some say in this terribly planned project that will surely impact the elkhorn reefs.

Instead of making snide comments about Americans, we should all work together to make sure this project is not just another Government fiasco. We love Puerto Rico and want to see it's beaches protected, Thank God Surf Rider is represented in Rincon!

This hardened trail must never happen! After spending a month filming on the coast of Rincon this past winter, I came to appreciate it's amazing natural beauty and accessibility. Thankfully, Surfrider and the many good people of Puerto Rico will fight this booddoggle.

A big paved road is definitely wrong ! A smart small bike path with minimal structures and good quality is what could be acceptable...

Walkers, joggers, tourists , ciclists, skaters and fisherman should have easy free access between DOMES and POOLS beaches!!!...

Old people have stories, everybody knows it is way easier to use the trail than to climb the PUNTAS hills... Poor old Maria! ...

Many locals consider the blockade of the "el camino del faro" a BAD SIGNAL! People unmotorized should have easy free access like it was before the (dubious aquisition of this land)... Motor vehicles should not be allowed!
---
Locales - esto era un camino vecinal libre para todos...Pertenecia a Puerto Rico Rail Road y nunca se debio permitir LA VENTA y bloqueo del camino para cerrarlo... Calladitos poco a poco meteran OTRO GRAN HOTEL... Vamos a proteger a Rincon antes que se dane mas!...
---
There should be an open trail and beach access GUARANTEE for locals and tourists ... A narrow simple bike path is a good way of keeping Rincon as it has always been , friendly and for everyone to enjoy...

"El camino del faro " was always used by the local people and EVERYBODY will UNITE to keep it that way!!!

Typical Boricura. Let's start yet another construction project on our little island. As if there isn't over 1,000 unfinished and ongoing construction projects already. Folks, take a good look at your Capital, San Juan, what a dump. Depressing lifestyle.
